Micreon GmbH

Brief outline

Micreon GmbH is one of the world’s most prestigious contract manufacturers and technology consultants for micromachining with ultrafast lasers. Ultrafast laser technology has all the advantages necessary for current and future miniaturization applications, with processing resolutions in the sub-micrometer range that are not only smaller, but of higher quality than comparable conventional methods.

Micreon is a spin-off company of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. and was founded in 2003.

Core skills

Ultrafast Laser Machining can be used to process all kinds of materials with extremely high quality and reproducibility. Unlike conventional laser processing, ultrafast laser machining reduces damage to the surrounding area, such as melt zones, micro-cracks or debris, thus making post-treatment unnecessary. Since ultrafast laser-matter interaction is independent of the linear absorption for the laser wavelength, all kinds of materials can be processed using the same laser source.

Innovative, ultrafast laser technology can be applied for 2D- and 3D-surface structuring or micro-cutting and drilling. Delicate or sensitive materials with a high heat conductivity or low melting temperatures can be precisely machined with a quality that has yet to be matched.

From the manufacturing of single prototypes to mass production, Micreon offers the complete range of material processing using ultrafast lasers. In addition, Micreon provides professional consulting services in the field of laser-supported micro- and nano- machining.

Application areas

The new ultrafast laser technology is anestablished technology in many fields of microsystem technology. Industrial applications can be found in
  • The automotive and avionics industry
  • Pharmacological and medical industry
  • The semiconductor industry
  • Information technology
  • Sensor engineering
  • Measuring technology

R&D operations

Micreon`s research and development activities are closely connected to industrial R&D projects, universities and other research institutes.
