Volkswagen AG
Brief outline The Volkswagen Group is one of the biggest Carmanufacturers in the world and uses state of-the-art technologies in the development and production of vehicles and vehicle parts. Optical technologies play a prominent role here too. About 50,000 employees work at the Group headquarters in Wolfsburg / Germany. This is where the largest car factory and Group’s biggest research and development centre (with about 10,000 staff) are located. The commercial vehicles division is based in Hanover. Core skills Optical technologies used by Volkswagen AG: - With such vehicle parts as glass, lighting, instruments and sensors.
- In the context of process measuring technology
in production. - In such laser-based processes as laser cutting, laser welding, laser soldering and laser
hardening. - In measurement technology with optical geometry measuring processes, optical processes for vibration and deformation analysis or laser measurement processes for investigating flow and combustion operations.
R&D operations - Optical sensors for smart vehicle management
- Optical measuring processes for the analysis of flow, carburation and combustion in engines:
- High-frequency kinematography with laser stroboscope illumination
- Particle image velocimetry (PIV) and associated processes
- Laser-spectroscopic processes for timeresolved gas analysis Development of miniaturised optical sensors for motor operations
- Interferometric and laser Doppler processes for measuring vibration and stretching (ESPI, LDV, ...).
- Optical geometric measuring processes:
- Measuring processes and sensors for three dimensional shape recording
- Calibration processes for optical geometry sensors and for photogrammetry
- Component measurement on the basis of measuring point “clouds”
- Processing for evaluating vehicle windows and other “optical” vehicle components Volkswagen is carrying out research projects of its own in liaison with partners in the particular with the aim of making purposeful advances in process development.
Training and further education- Graduation theses and other projects
- Doctorates
