Exzellenzcluster QUEST
Brief OutlineThe Cluster of Excellence QUEST (Centre for Quantum Engineering and Space-Time Research) was founded in 2007 in the framework of the excellence initiative of Federal and State Governments in Germany. QUEST comprises the expertise of six institutes at Leibniz Universität Hannover with five research centres in Lower Saxony to perform research at the quantum limit. Within QUEST, more than 250 scientists are working in the fields of qu antum engineering, quantum sensors, space-time research and enabling technologies aiming for ambitious goals: To reach unprecedented levels of precision in measurements of space and time and to apply sensors based on these novel quantum technologies in global geodesy, inertial sensing, navigation and laser ranging. Therefore, QUEST concentrates on the advancement of quantum engineering and space-time research to gain a better understanding of the underlying physics and to improve or utilise resulting innovative methods in fundamental physics and applied fields. New concepts on interferometry and atomic quantum sensors will initiate technology development in precision optics, quantum electronics, lasers, new materials, and new optical designs and hence form an excellent basis for co-operation with industry.
