Harz University Of Applied Studies and Automation and Informatics Division
Optical Communications Systems
Brief outlineThe Harz University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1991 nearby the Harz mountains. Approximately 3,300 young people from all over the country as well as foreigners study at the University right now. About 800 students are registered at the department of Automation and Computer Science in six different courses of studies and one master study path. Four of the courses are related to a technical scope, where the study path “communications technology” is focused on optical telecommunications and optical packaging. EquipmentThe laboratory is equipped with modern devices e.g.: - Opt. Dispersion Analyser
- Opt. Spectrum Analyser
- Opt. Reflectometer
- Field Transmission Test Bed (up to 10 GBit/s)
- WDM-Testbed
- Usability lab for Polymeric Fiber Applications
- Opt. Wavelength Measurement Systems
- Opt. Broad Bandwidth Oscilloscope
- Opt. 3D-Goniometer
- Linewidth Measurement of Lasers
- Characterization of POF-Fibers
- 6 Axis Micro Motion Robot
- Fusion Splicers
- Climate-Testing Chamber
R&D operations- Characterization of optical devices (LEDs, white power LEDs, diode Lasers
- Development of optical key components for POF-transmission
- Optical Wavelength Reference
- Optical Packaging
Services- Fiber Chip Coupling (PAVT)
- Design of special communication systems, especially for POF
