Brief outlinePhysics at Leibniz Universität Hannover are divided up into six institutes: - Institute for Gravitational Physics
- Institute for Solid State Physics
- Institute for Quantum Optics
- Institute for Theoretical Physics
- Institute for Meteorology and Climatology
- Institute for Radiation Protection and Radioecology
Co-operationPhysics at Leibniz Universität Hannover cooperate with the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Faculty, the mechanical Engineering Faculty, the Chemical Faculty, Laser Zentrum Hannover, Hanover Medical University and the Hannover Veterinary Medical University. In research and teaching, these are close relationships to the institutes associated with the university, Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) and the Hameln/Emmerthal Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH). Study groups from Physics are involved in a large number of national and international research projects too. Both undergraduate and masters courses are offered in general and technical physics. Training and further educationThe training of meteorologists is closely liked to the undergraduate physics course, since meteorology is classified as a discipline of physics. A broad spectrum of courses is provided for the interdisciplinary teacher training program both at bachelor and masters level.
In addition a masters course on optical technologies as well as bachelor and masters courses on nanotechnologies are currently in preparation. R&D operations- Graviation wave detectors
- Interfaces and surfaces on the atomic scale
- Production and characterisation of minature semiconductor structures
- Laser development, laser medicine, interaction between laser light and material
- Problem of quantum field theory and gravitation
- Quantum field theory of atoms and photons, quantum information theory
- Traffic meteorology, lightning research, numerical modelling, visualisation of simulation results, UV and solar radiation, environmental meteorology
- Radiation Protection and Radioecology
Particular attention is given to the following research specialities:
- Collaborative Research Centre SFB 407 “Quantum Limited Measuring processes with Atoms, Molecule and Photons”
- European graduate course interference and quantum applications
- Centre for Gravitation Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover and the Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitation Physics
(Albert-Einstein Institute) - Transregio Collaborative research centre “Graviational Wave Astronomie: methods – sources – observation”
