Photonics began to develop in the second half of the 20th century, as the result of a deeper grasp of the physical properties of light and a more comprehensive understanding of how to exploit them. While photonics has not yet achieved the prominence of electronics in the public mind, it is nevertheless becoming an integral part of everyday life, where its presence is more and more evident. The high performances of integrated circuitry and today's new slim mobile phones are a direct result of this. Photonics applications are proliferating into many new domains, such as telecoms, displays, lighting and clean energy. Photonics is constantly expanding into fresh fields as new areas of application are progressively coming over the horizon.

Photonics presents technical challenges to innovators and as markets develop and expand, they offer attractive prospects for new investors. The basic elements are already in place to foster the creation of new businesses. In the photonics field, both established and emerging companies are hungry for capital to finance this burgeoning expansion. Effective financing is essential to exploit new technological developments, to set up proper company structures and to develop distribution and logistics networks in response to the demands of global markets.

Invest in Photonics aims to foster and facilitate fruitful discussions between potential investors and entrepreneurs by bringing them together in one place to spend two invaluable days together.

Make a date now to come to Invest in Photonics, the first ever international convention to meet the specific needs of photonics companies and potential investors, with the aim of:
- Bringing about fruitful exchanges and networking opportunities
- Contributing to the development and expansion both of individual companies and of markets, new and existing
- Promoting Photonics on a wider scale

This is reason enough to come to Aquitaine and South West France, where we look forward to the pleasure of offering you a very warm welcome in Bordeaux.
